Power Surge has exited public beta and is now available for download in the Movi app.
Power Surge firmware gives a motor power boost to Mōvi Pro and Carbon, increased camera control, and a few bug fixes for Pro/XL/Carbon.
Do you want to hold that top speed longer and recover faster when you exceed it? Want more performance and on-screen camera control for your Carbon? Then this release is for you.
Increased time at peak torque on all three motors with quicker recovery between shots. Useful for high-speed applications with heavy payloads or lots of whip panning!
We've re-engineered the motor temperature estimator to sustain maximum torque even longer while still protecting the motors. The recovery time after exceeding the thermal thresholds has also been reduced. Less downtime between shots!
Think of this update as Maniac Mode 2.0.
Maniac Mode | Off | On |
---|---|---|
Max Motor Current | 8A | 12A |
Top speed in worst aerodynamic pose | Rigging/camera package dependent | Up to 50% faster |
Recovery Behavior (after foldback) | Uncontrollable until temp estimate lowers | Reduce speed slightly and control is re-established |
A motor housing can get hot if you stall a motor (ex. Pan axis collides with the ring) with Maniac Mode turned on with no airflow. Be careful, and don't rest Movi against a hard stop.
A motor temperature warning is given on the GCU screen if a motor has been stalled for longer than 30s.
The peak torque and new temperature estimator only take effect when Maniac Mode is enabled.
Enable Maniac Mode: Mōvi Pro App > Configurations > Tuning > Advanced.
There is still a cool down time if high torque is used a lot, but Power Surge recovers quicker than Blackjack! Motors are protected by lowering the current as needed. Mōvi displays a warning on the details screen, shown as Drive “Limit” while in thermal cool down mode, but stays in Maniac Mode as long as possible.
We called this firmware Power Surge for a reason - Make sure your batteries can support the high current draw required for Maniac 2.0! We have tested extensively on SL4s, and have done a few test runs on TB50s in good condition. We do not recommend running the original Mōvi Pro batteries with Maniac Mode enabled.
Increased peak torque by 20% and increased time at peak torque on all three motors with quicker recovery between shots. Go faster with Carbon while staying perfectly stable.
The increased torque is always on with Power Surge.
If Movi gets stuck pushing against a hard stop (ex. Pan axis collides with the ring) in a low airflow environment, the outside of the motors can get hot. Be careful, and don't rest Movi against a hard stop.
A motor temperature warning is given on the GCU screen if a motor has been stalled for longer than 30s.

On-Screen Display control of the following cameras through the Mōvi Controller:
Freefly Ember
Panasonic BGH1 + Entire Air Commander
Panasonic BS1H + Entire Air Commander
Update your Mōvi and Mōvi controller
Update your AIR Commander Entire firmware (if required)
Connect the camera to the Mōvi using the appropriate cable/controller.
Ember control cable
AIR Commander Entire
In the Mōvi controller, set the camera type under FIZ Config. Make sure to save the setting.
Access basic camera controls under the Cam Image page and On-screen controls under the OSD page.
It may take a few seconds for the camera control to start working after configuration
Ember must be updated to v1.4.14 or later for control through Mōvi
BGH1 must be updated to v2.5 or later
BS1H must be updated to v1.2 or later
OSD control of the BGH1 and BS1H is only available when using the Entire Air Commander module running v1.790.
We've updated Movi Carbon BS1H and BGH1 tuning for improved performance.
After updating your Carbon, scroll to the 'Reset Robot' screen and reset Movi Carbon to default settings.
FRX disconnect bug fix - If you lose connection, Mōvi now holds exactly where you left it, ready for you to continue the control once you’re back in range.
ND filter control - Control of internal ND filters via the Kippertie Revolva mount. This is currently only supported on the upcoming Ember Carbon.
